Riberia: What’s in a name? Editor: The origin of the name “Riberia Street” has come up from time to time. I’ve seen articles in The Record puzzling about it, and have not been satisfied with the conclusions. I ultimately speculated that the name is a misspelling, but for what I couldn’t imagine. I learned recently, there is a Spanish wine associated with the name, “Ribera,” so I went digging. I learned that the word Ribera is Spanish for riverbank or river basin. read more
