Around 400 BC, in war-torn Greece, Plato was asked when there would be an end to war. The great philosopher replied: “only the dead have seen the end of war.” As I write this, on June 28, 2014, it is exactly 100 years since the assassination that triggered World War I — “the war to end all wars.” That war ended nothing — except 20 million lives — and set the stage for World War II.
