Local soldiers die in the Philippines
A letter from a local soldier reports more than a dozen African-Americans from St. Augustine in 24th and 25th Infantry Regiments died in an ambush in the Philippines in June. Filipino rebels are fighting against U.S. control of the islands, established after the Spanish-American War.
