The gulf between educated professionals and low-wage workers gets wider by the year, according to Florida International University’s annual State of Working Florida Report.
The study, timed to Labor Day, finds most wage growth over the past three decades has accrued to the highest-paid workers.
For the top quarter of Florida workers, the average inflation-adjusted wage grew 47 percent from 1980 to 2013, FIU’s report said. But for the lowest-paid quarter of workers, the average annual wage climbed only 14 percent.
