Tonight, the Anastasia Mosquito Control District commissioners will vote, in the first of two required hearings, to raise its tax rate from .132 mills to a maximum of .245 mills — a 98 percent increase.
The bump, according to board members, is needed to pay for a new facility off of EOC Drive, and adjacent to the county’s emergency operations center. The land was purchased in 2005 by the district for that purpose, but bad economic times derailed the plan.
