BELL — Alachua County’s sheriff says Florida’s child welfare agency was warned in 2013 that a man who fatally shot his daughter and six grandchildren should be kept away from them.
Sheriff Sadie Darnell tells The Gainesville Sun that last year, three of the six children killed were interviewed by a child protection team that warned Florida’s Department of Children and Families that Don Spirit should have no contact with his grandchildren. Spirit shot the victims Sept. 18 in Bell before killing himself.
