WASHINGTON — In the three weeks since a federal judge told Utah gays they had a constitutional right to marry, the issue of whether such a right exists in the state has pingponged from a federal appeals court to the U.S. Supreme Court, the state attorney general, the governor and, Friday, the U.S. attorney general.
Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. announced that the federal government would recognize the more than 1,300 same-sex marriages that took place in Utah during the past three weeks.
