|Nation's Oldest City: Cold weather spelled trouble in 1835|

Most of us shivered last week thanks to a “polar vortex,” which was atypically pushed farther south than usual. Even colder weather reached St. Augustine in February 1835. A temperature of 10 degrees was reported for our city. On the banks of the St. Johns River at Picolata, it was 7 degrees.
