Dudes from the West Coast have replaced the Good Ol’ Boys from the South when it comes to driving — and winning championships — in the Sprint Cup Series.
There will be more drivers from California in Sunday’s Daytona 500 than from North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Virginia and Tennessee combined.
As NASCAR’s schedule expanded in the past 30 years, reaching far beyond its Southeastern roots, the sport has erased its boundaries.
