Severe thunderstorms cut short the 26.2 With Donna marathon, as weather made its mark on the race for the third year in a row.
Ethiopian athletes completed a clean sweep of the marathon events before lightning forced a halt to Sunday’s race with a few hundred runners yet to finish.
“It was the last thing we wanted to do today,” race director Amanda Napolitano said. “But it was the right decision to keep everybody safe.”
