The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) created a new congregation March 2 — the St. Johns River Ward. Growth of the church in St. Johns County made it necessary to divide two congregations into three, with the new ward — similar to a parish — coming from a re-drawing of the boundaries for the existing Julington Creek and St. Johns wards.
Brian D. Giles of St. Augustine, who is in the food and beverage industry, has been called to serve as the bishop of the St. Johns River congregation.
