Florida has led the nation for 35 years in the area of protecting private access to public records. It’s fitting that a new bill expanding those rights moved past an important Senate committee last Thursday in Tallahassee — the day that former Gov. Reubin Askew died.
It was Askew who championed Florida’s sweeping Sunshine Amendment in 1976. He would be proud of the progress made since then, and troubled by some setbacks.
