If you were visiting St. Augustine before 1960 or reading about our city’s long past at that time, an extremely important episode would have probably gone unmentioned. The overlooked and not well-known event was the siege of 1702. In 1959, historian Charles W. Arnade published “The Siege of St. Augustine in 1702,” told from Spanish records, and many had to re-think and re-evaluate their claims of the age of St. Augustine’s old Spanish buildings.
